KANSAS CITY PERFORMING ARTS COMPLEX
Kansas City, MO - 1991

Kansas City held an open design competition for a new performing complex to be located within the existing cultural center of Kansas City, MO. In an attempt to further enliven and attract patrons to this newly developed area, the final design celebrates performing art by becoming a visually stimulating, living, breathing and larger than life theater set.

This design was a quintessential project culminating our understanding of architecture principles and design philosophies. The final design solution focused on three objectives: to design a building which expresses its anatomic or technological systems and how to express these systems as architecture, to examine the context and design a structure which compliments the surrounding area by contradicting its architecture with the existing historical precedent, and finally, to design a fully functional and profitable arts complex which enhances the community, educates the population and entertains its patrons.
